No Stagecoach Tickets, No Problem
It can be hard to live in the Coachella Valley during festival season, especially when you don’t actually have tickets to the festivals, and only get to live vicariously through social media videos of people enjoying them, while you “enjoy” your children.
If you are like me and want to get out and appreciate the last few weekends of amazing weather, but do not have Stagecoach tickets, here are some ideas for you!
Live Music
If it’s live music you’re looking for check out the FREE outdoor concerts on Saturday at The River at 7:00pm or Desert Nights on the Blvd in Desert Hot Springs from 4:00pm-8:00pm.
For Stagecoach music and festival like atmosphere Giddy Up Lounge from 4:00pm-10:00pm at Center Stage in Indio is the place to be. If you close your eyes for a minute you might actually feel like you’re at Stagecoach (just make sure someone else is watching your kids)! This event is also FREE and is being put on by the City of Indio.
Outdoor Activities
If enjoying the outdoors is on your weekend to-do list (it was just Earth Day after all), this is the perfect time of year to do it!
Friends of the Desert Mountains will host their monthly Monument Night Adventures and Night Sky Viewing of Stars and Planets at the Art Smith Trailhead Parking Lot in Palm Desert starting at 8:00pm.
This Sunday from 9:00am-2:30pm Sunnylands will host their last “Sundays at Sunnylands” of the season. This is one of our family favorites for getting outdoors and disconnecting for a few hours. They have toys and games on the Great Lawn (giant chess board, hula hoops, etc.), you can pick up a “No-Tech Tote” from the reception desk, and there is plenty of room for the kids to run around. Bring sunscreen, water, and a picnic lunch or order food from the onsite cafe if you plan to stay awhile.
Better than Festival Food
Festival food is fine, but usually pricey and the lines can be less than wonderful. Luckily there are so many other options in the valley to support local businesses and eat some great food!
Thursday nights kick of the weekend with VillageFest from 6:00pm-9:00pm in Downtown Palm Springs where you can find everything from Aguas Frescas and Boba to BBQ and Middle Eastern food.
If you’re on the East end of the Valley stop by Food Truck Fridays in Downtown Indio from 5:00pm-10:00pm on Friday night to check out a variety of food trucks offering all the savory to sweet options you could want!
